Transformers - do I have to watch the 1st one to understand the 2nd one?

I haven't seen Transformers 1, and I'm going to see Transformers 2 tonight. Should I rent Transformers 1 today from the video store so that I understand Transformers 2, or does it not make a difference? Thanks!|||i don't think it makes a ton of difference, i saw it las t night and don't remember much about the first. there is a character that was in it from the first one that i dont remember, but they do a good job of explaining his history. im sure there are a couple things that you need to no but u'll probably catch on, though i do suggest watching the first one anyways|||You definitely should. Sure its not rocket science or anything, but you'll enjoy the movie more and sort of see of how everything came to be, along with been able to understand the little innuendos and jokes that tie into the story from Part 1.|||I dont think it will make much difference. Basically in Transformers 1, the robots came to earth and fought and SETTLED their conflict and the war is over. Im guessing in Transformers 2, they just decide to come back and fight again.. So, wont be much difference :)|||I think that you would enjoy it more, if you saw the first one, so you have an idea of who the characters are. The plot isn't hard to follow, but it helps to see the first one.
